THE WHAT:
Fundamental arm coordinations to be practiced until proficient. They represent patterns (8's, waves... circles, spirals, arcs...) which are found in all movement, although in themselves are nothing more than isolated patterns. By developing an embodied understanding of these patterns you can also extrapolate to the rest of the body, and ultimately in movement through space and levels.
Be mindful of the relationship between INEFFICIENCY and FATIGUE. If, after only a minute or two of practice, you feel excessive tension, lactic acid, and "burning" in the shoulders/upper trapezius muscles, bring your focus toward doing as LITTLE as is required to sustain the position of the arms.
RELAX these areas as much as possible and try to 'hold' and move your arms from elsewhere. Consider the form & arm-patterns of a ballerina who will practice for hours at a time, and yet do not embody the aesthetics we traditionally upper-body strength. Work toward the ability to practice up to 5 minutes, without resting the arms.
