Dynamic headstands (HeSt) free-association (FA) 1
Headstands

THE WHAT & HOW:
Free-associations entering different headstand patterns while moving continuously through space. The aim is to connect foundational headstand configurations into a fluid movement language, using transitional vocabularies such as the “Role” for squat-gait and the “Low-ceiling walk” for high-gait/standing, alongside other compatible patterns.
Resource contents:
0:05 - HeSt FA 1 (with Role)
1:24 - HeSt FA 1 (with ‘Low-ceiling’)
2:25 - HeSt FA 1 (leaping and receiving)
Rather than isolated holds, the headstand is treated as a dynamic referent configuration (zero point) that can be entered, stabilised, and exited within continuous locomotion. This shifts the focus toward ongoing reorganisation of the body, where inversion is integrated rather than separated from movement.
Intensity can range from controlled, feet-supported entries to more dynamic leaping entries, with leg patterns varying from simple alternations to tucks, straddles, straight-line, helixes, and everything between. The emphasis is on being deliberate and clear in expression, while maintaining continuity and variability in movement.
Through this, the practitioner develops the ability to change orientation dynamically through space, moving between upright and inverted positions without disruption. This begins to bridge directly into the world of ground acrobatics, where inversion is no longer static but part of a continuous, adaptable movement system.

Increasing the vocabulary and dexterity of the fundamental static headstand (HeSt) by expressing controlled leg movement in the sagittal and frontal planes, alongside straddle-press variations. This develops a more adaptable inversion where leg organisation is continuously modulat... -
Headstand (HeSt) entries 1 (Role)
THE WHAT & HOW:
Foundational entries to and exits from headstand (HeSt) forms using the transitional 'Role', characterised by a circular, transverse-rotational trajectory from squat-level space into inversion. The focus is on connecting lower-level locomotion directly into structured inversion wi... -
Helix-headstand
THE WHAT & HOW:
The headstand helix expands the dynamic headstand vocabulary into the transverse plane, introducing rotational organisation through the inverted structure. While functioning as a dynamic headstand variation, it also serves as a key context for developing counter-rotation between t...
