THE WHAT:
A bipedal-locomotion concept teaching use of the arms in generating rotational-momentum in 4 'gait-leves': 'standing', 'high', 'mid', and 'low'. The principle is essentially of "weight-shifting" the body's vertical-axis to a unilateral one over the forward-foot, establishing it as a 'pivot' around which to turn. Whilst INITIATING with the arms, this simply starts a sequences of events in which the the arms "pull" the torso around, the torso the hips, and coming with the hips, the back-leg.
In practice, unless programmed otherwise, simply open a space of time (e.g. 5-10 minutes) to experiment with the patterns until they are proficient and the concept understood in an EMBODIED way. Whilst some variations may be more challenging than others, remember that there is no "movement hierarchy" and so each should be given their equal focus & attention.
Working for 'lengths' (ca. 20m total) or time (ca. 60") and cycling through the patterns for sets is a convenient structure to work with, although do leave some time at the end for INTEGRATING the different variations into 'lengths', using them to transition UP and DOWN through the 'levels in space'.
Ultimately, the 'gait-pivot' serves as a means of BIPEDAL-LOCOMOTION through space, enabling both GENERATION and TRANSMISSION of rotational-momentum. It can, therefore, potentially "come out" of & lead into ANY other rotational locomotion pattern or transition, whether a quadrupedal 'Role', transitional 'High-bridge rotation', floor-contact 'Travelling-b', or 'Corta-capim'.
As such, it gives the general practice & expression of bipedal-locomotion greater "curvature" in an area of practice generally dominated by more linear-forms (e.g. the frontally-travelling 'Pu-bu' and sagittal 'Duck-walk') which require dedicated TRANSITIONAL forms, such as the 'Dragon-squat' to rotationally "wind" and "unwind". As with the quadrupedal 'Bear-crawl', it can likewise serve as a constant for "driving" the body in space, leading from & returning to it in bipedal an more open 'Floor-communication' practice.
