Fundamental rail balance 3 (bi-/quadrupedal walks)
Low rail-work

THE WHAT:
Developmental projects for 'rail-walking' proceed to exploring gait 'levels in space', beginning with a BIPEDAL sagittal squat-walk reminiscent of the 'Duck walk' and capacities developed in other 'low/squat-gait' contexts. From a physics perspective, this form is actually easier to balance as the body's center of mass is much lower relative to the rail.
The added restriction, however, is conditioning-capacity of the 'squat-gait' form itself (i.e. squat-mobility, knee-integrity, and conditioning to fatigue in the compressed position) which will continue to develop within the context of practice. Toward this, time spent in a STATIC, SINGLE-FOOT balance position can be explored, as well as balancing in the BIPEDAL sagittal-squat position.
The project develops to QUADRUPEDAL rail-walking in the sagittal plane in a contralateral form reminiscent of the locomoting 'Bear-crawl', and the stability-aspect which was most noticeable in the early days of learning the pattern on the floor now return multiple-times-fold as the new modality now requests maintaining BALANCE whilst dynamically stabilising whilst in motion.
A tip to facilitate this, then, is to GRIP with the hand against the rail to modulate balance left/right whilst passing thorough the contralateral-form of '2-POINT support' (i.e. opposite hand/foot ONLY in contact with the rail), and pass QUICKLY through the moment of '4-point support', simply to switch sides.

2:20 - Contralateral quadruped isometrics
2:50 - Sagittal quadrupedal rail-walk

Rail-quadrupedal 'leg-thread'
THE WHAT:
An intermediate-to-advanced semi-quadrupedal 'low-rail' locomotion pattern. It's availability is an expression of both capacity (compression potential to achieve the 'leg-thread'), structural-awareness (finding the optimal placement of hands/feet and negotiation the thread of the leg ar...
