Headstand (HeSt) entries 3 (jumping & leaping)
Headstands

THE WHAT:
Jumping and leaping into headstands using 3-point and single-hand support variations, developing dynamic entry control into inversion. In 3-point entries, weight is transferred sequentially through both hands before the final foot leaves the floor, similar to a cartwheel-like loading pattern. In single-hand variations, the leap is larger, with both feet leaving the ground momentarily before the second hand makes contact. In forward-leap variations, both hands enter simultaneously just before the feet leave the floor.
Resource contents:
0:05 - Lateral entrance to Tuck HeSt (3-point)
0:41 - Lateral entrance to Straddle HeSt (3-point)
1:22 - Jumping lateral-entrance (single-hand)
1:58 - Forward-leap to Tuck HeSt
2:25 - Forward-leap into Straddle-HeSt
2:52 - Forward-leap into Full HeSt
A key aspect is locating the referent configuration (zero point) of the headstand upon contact - where balance, stacking, and structural integrity converge - allowing the system to stabilise or transition smoothly out. Entry training becomes the repeated ability to find this point from dynamic conditions rather than fixed placement. Across all variations, the focus is on entering inversion dynamically while maintaining spatial organisation and structural clarity, adapting to changing load distributions while still finding a stable inverted alignment.
Equally important is the ability to absorb impact through the hands and head without collapsing, distributing force into the floor to create a controlled, soft landing while still allowing some energy to be recycled into exit or continued movement.
Over time, this develops dexterity, as the body learns to reorganise into inversion from varied entry conditions. The headstand becomes a dynamic, adaptable position that can be integrated into continuous ground-acrobatic flow, supporting transitions and connections within free-association movement.
